What is Occupational Therapy?

Occupational therapy is a trusted, licensed and regulated health profession in Alberta. Occupational therapy helps you identify and uncover obstacles that keep you from reaching your fullest potential. Occupational therapy helps people engage in activities that are meaningful and purposeful to them. Who can benefit from Occupational Therapy?

Occupational therapy takes a holistic and functional approach to health care. People from all walks of life work with professional occupational therapists to help attain their relationship, personal, professional and health goals. Working with an occupational therapist is not limited to any type of person, but is best for those who want to take initiative in their own life.   

What happens in a session?

Each session is individually tailored to the client and will vary based on their needs. Anna will provide you with a complimentary 30 minute consultation. She will discuss what you are committed to accomplishing together and begin to create a plan to achieve your goals. 

How is occupational therapy different from psychotherapy?

Occupational therapy is distinct from traditional therapy because it is not designed solely to address psychological issues. While emotional issues may arise, the primary focus of therapy is to help you identify your barriers to success in all areas of your life. Anna will work  with you to identify your goals, achieve them, and develop constructive habits and skills for lifelong recovery. Occupational therapists are licensed to provide psychosocial interventions in conjunction with activity based therapies. Anna can help you with designing the best method of treatment for you, dependent on your needs.

Anna has training in a number of psychosocial interventions including but not limited to:

- EMDR

- Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT)

- Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE)

- Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART)

- Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

Do I really need a therapist? Can't I just do it by myself?
